Akkodis is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a Contract to Hire position with a client in the Medical Device Industry located in St. Petersburg, FL.
Salary Range: $55.00/hour to $58.00/hour. The salary may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Mechanical Design Engineer
JOB SUMMARY
Design Engineer with expertise in mechanical engineering fundamentals. Lead design teams through full product development of hardware and into production. Ability to implement mechanical architecture needs within time and cost constraints. Expected to demonstrate a level of expertise in mechanical engineering fundamentals that matches or exceeds the expertise of our customers. Consult on mechanical architectures, assess technical requirements and competencies needed during quoting and oversee design progressions during product developments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Will represent our company Design Engineering team in technical customer discussions / meetings.
Work with Project Managers in the quoting process.
Provide technical input to help identify and solve project risks that may affect overall project plans and schedules.
Is expected to support the development and utilization of processes for design.
Stay abreast of the latest technology and techniques to provide designs that are competitive and cost effective.
Raise perception of our company acumen in the industry by authoring or presenting papers, articles, etc.
Work with Site Directors to define potential R&D project proposals that will help increase areas of competencies needed.
Lead the development and implementation of platform and product architectures in collaboration with senior technical staff.
Oversee the development of system component requirements, interfaces, and specifications necessary to maintain the consistency and integrity of the architectures.
Manage product design and documentation at a system level.
Perform independent research and engineering studies.
Effectively consult on multiple projects in parallel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical devices experience in autoinjector technology is a plus.
Experience in the following is a must: Enclosure Design, Mechanisms, microvalve, spring selection
Able to interface with / understanding client applications, instrument interfaces.
Material Selection for Compatibility medical device and ability to apply Standards such as IEC 60601 and IEC 61010.
Hand on experience is a plus: integration of medical components.
Understanding of Plastic injection molding experience
SolidWorks 2023 or 2024 proficiency is a must. CREO 8.0+ proficiency is a plus.
Windchill / PTC Work Group Manager is a plus.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from and accredited four-year college or university and equivalent experience
Minimum of 5+ years of related experience and/or training
Experience
Several years of experience in the medical device or medical diagnostics industry with experience in design, manufacturing, and clinical applications of micro-fluidic based medical devices. Experience should include medical risk management, hazard analysis, non-contact pumping technologies, micro-fluid management technologies, performance standards and product evaluations. Experience with developing single use devices such as administration sets is a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to develop mathematical models of physical reality and solve them, then implement the results.
