A Day in the Life As the Sr. Director of Automation Engineering – Global Operations Sustaining, you will lead a global team responsible for stabilizing, optimizing, and continuously improving production equipment and automation systems post product launch. Your work will ensure equipment reliability, compliance, and scalability across Medtronic manufacturing sites while supporting high-impact continuous improvement initiatives. The Diabetes Operating Unit focuses on improving the lives of those within the global diabetes community. As a separate entity, we anticipate leveraging increased investments to drive meaningful innovation and enhance our impact on patient care. You will: Own and maintain production equipment to ensure maximum uptime, total productive maintenance (TPM), and an effective spare parts strategy. Lead strategic equipment upgrades and revalidations to maintain operational excellence and regulatory compliance. Drive continuous improvement (CI) projects to reduce cycle time, scrap, cost, and improve repair turnaround and yield. Implement Lean Manufacturing principles and structured problem-solving methodologies across all sites. Standardize and scale mature automation platforms across the global manufacturing network by leveraging existing infrastructure. Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize labeling systems to ensure serialization and traceability compliance. Ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory requirements during sustaining engineering changes and audits. Partner with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to align on site-level OKRs, KPIs, and performance goals. Must Have: Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field. 15+ years of relevant professional experience in manufacturing, automation, or operations engineering with 10+ years in a managerial or leadership role. - Or advanced degree with a minimum of 13 years prior relevant experience, minimum of 10 years of managerial experience. Nice to Have Demonstrated expertise in MES systems, PLC/HMI diagnostics, Lean Sigma tools, and TPM strategies. Proven success leading multi-site sustaining engineering initiatives within a regulated environment. Experience with serialization, traceability systems, and revalidation of modified systems. Master’s degree in engineering, Operations, or Business. Six Sigma Black Belt or Lean Manufacturing certification. Experience deploying standard automation platforms globally. Familiarity with Medtronic quality systems, global manufacturing practices, and compliance regulations. Travel This role requires travel approx. 25% of time (domestic and international).

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$223,200.00 - $334,800.00 This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan. The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
